Long Weekend in Buenos Aires

Tuesday is Labor Day, a national holiday for Argentines, and although it is not particularly eventful, the long weekend is. Below is a list of upcoming fun to be had.

Saturday

Buenos Aires Food Market: Throughout the weekend a special organic outdoor market will be set up in San Telmo where visitors are welcome to stop for a savory healthy bite. The event will be postponed in case of rain.  Av. Caseros between  Bolivar and Defensa, San Telmo.

Don’t miss the new MALBA exhibits; Bye Bye American Pie, which showcases some of the most influential American contemporary art by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Larry Clark, Nan Goldin, Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger, Cady Noland, and Paul Mc Carthy, and the Leon Ferrari  showcase “Brailles, relectura de la biblia”. Avenida Figueroa Alcorta 3415, Recoleta. 

Vendimia en Boedo is a wine and art festival celebrating the local viticulture. Don’t miss the chance to experience different kinds of wine, live music and shows and art exhibits. Av. Boedo 880.

The city will be abuzz with literary activity until the 7th of May at the annual international book fair. Tickets cost 20 pesos from Mon-Thur and 26 pesos on the weekend. Find the full program of activities here.

A city Photography Marathon will be held by Garrick-Arte y Cultura starting at midday. Sign up at esperamaraton@elgarrick.com.ar or call 3526 7439 to book your place.

Those visiting La Boca on Sunday should stop by the traditional Bar El Estaño 1880 where there will be live tango music from 1pm-4pm. Aristobulo del Valle 1100, La Boca.

On Sunday at 7.30pm, renowned local musician Pedro Aznar will be presenting a free live concert in Plaza Italia commemorating the music of Luis Alberto Spinetta. Later on, the book fair will be open free of charge.

Monday

Stop by La Peña del Colorado where a tango peña will be held at 8.30pm. This Palermo centered Peña serves traditional food and stages live shows by an array of performers as well as hosting folklore dances for the community.  From midnight onwards they also encourage the diners to play spontaneous guitar music. The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Recoleta is presenting a new exhibit ¨Claridad, la vanguardia en lucha¨, showcasing Argentine art from the 20´s-40´s depicting different social and political aspects that the country was going through at the time. Av. Del Libertador 1473, Recoleta.

From 1pm-5pm there will be a Reiki marathon at the stunning Japanese gardens in Palermo. Av. Figueroa Alcorta and Av. Casares.
