Buenos Aires Top Gastro Moments 2013

2013 was a great year for the local culinary industry! The second edition of the Masticar Food Fair, which aims at promoting local cuisine and gourmet lifestyle was a huge success  and 15 Argentine restaurants (including HG) were picked as part of the top 50 restaurants of the world by Restaurant Magazine!

At Hernán Gipponi the new One Table event that takes place on Mondays and is all about sharing a unique and very tasty dining experience with other food enthusiasts in one big table proved to be a huge success and part of a gastronomic tendency that is becoming more and more popular in the city.

Additionally, there were some great new restaurants and bars that opened and are well worth checking out: the gorgeous Floreria Atlántico, one of the city’s best which is great for food, drinks and buying flowers, Verne which is local celebrity bartender Fede Cuco’s booze baby, and Astor which is becoming increasingly popular due to its perfected simplicity. A full list of new additions to the city scene is available at the Pick Up the Fork blog that is put together by our friend Allie, who also started offering food tours this year.

Second servings coming up in 2014!

Summer 2014 in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires has been sunny side up for a couple of weeks now, with Summer rearing its head. Usually, locals flee from the hot city during January and head to one of the pretty beach resorts either in the outskirts of the province or in Uruguay. Both are great options for weekend getaways too. One of the benefits of this temporary migration to the sea is that the city is unusually uncluttered and easy to move in. Plus, it’s a good time of the year to try some riverside activities, such as sailing in the Rio de la Plata, or visiting Tigre, as well as for freshening up with the delicious local ice cream. This season’s events include:

Verano en la ciudad: A series of outdoor cultural events takes place during the months of January and February in different city parks. Some of the programmed activities include screening of films, theatre, live music, poetry readings and more. Find the full program here.

Carnival 2014: Expect loud drums and colorful costumes around different city neighborhoods as the murgas hit the streets in February. More information here.

Shakespeare Festival: The city gets medieval with this festival that celebrates one of the most renowned playwrights in history. Theatre is of course one of the highlights but the festival also includes live music, the recreation of a medieval village, film screenings and a special bicycle adventure. More information here.

Ciudanza 2014: The outdoor contemporary dance festival will be taking place in March. More information here.

Ultra Buenos Aires- The yearly electronic music festival will be taking place in February in Costanera Sur. This year’s line-up includes DJ´s Tiësto, Hardwell, Paul van Dyk, Steve Aoki and Nicky Romero. Tickets here.

Live Music

22nd of February- Rod Stewart will be staging a live show at GEBA. Tickets here.

22nd of February- Charly Garcia at the Colón Theatre: Legendary Argentine rock star Charly will be presenting a unique show at the Colón Theatre on the 22nd on February. Tickets not on sale yet.

1st of March- The Rolling Stones- To be confirmed.

8th of March- Jack Johnson will be playing live at the Complejo al Rio in Vicente Lopez, on the outskirts of the city. Tickets not on sale yet.
