Argentine Contemporary Art: Juan Carlos Distefano

Argentine contemporary art is booming and well worth exploring and discovering. Amongst the most renowned contemporary local artists is Juan Carlos Distefano who has become notorious due to his figures of people sculpted in acrylic that depict the “dark side” of the human condition. Physical pain, violence, depredation, torture, and tragedy are all perfectly represented in his expressive and touching works of art.

The artist, who is concerned with depicting raw emotional truths, rather than with showing off virtuosity, also allows the public to touch his sculptures so that people can connect with them and understand their contours from another sensory perspective.

Distefano’s works are exhibited all around the world. In Argentina, some of his sculptures can be found at the MALBA, at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes and at Parque de la Memoria.
