Summer in Buenos Aires

Summer is the season in which most porteños flee the city in search of beaches, mountains, and lakes. The plus side for those in BA is that there is significantly less traffic and noise! Additionally, there are many summer programs and cultural activities and, of course, delicious fruit and ice cream everywhere. Below, we share some suggestions for summer fun in the city.

1-) Tigre outings:

The Tigre Delta is a summer favourite and for good reason. Try a Sudeste kayaking tour and explore the unique riverside landscape, or, if you don’t feel like rowing, check out one of the excellent Bandoneon a Bordo Tigre tours.

2-) Ethnic festivals and Carnival:

On the 24th of January celebrate the Bolivian Fiesta de Alasita in the Parque Indoamericano, and the Chinese New Year on the 3rd and 4th of February in the BA Barrio Chino. Then, it’s Carnaval on the 12th and 13th of February, check out one of the traditional neighborhood murgas!

3-) Teatro Colón Summer Program:

The Colón Theatre is usually closed during the summer, but this year, from the 21st of February to the 2nd of March, a popular music festival will be taking place in the renowned opera house. “Popular music” includes genres such as pop, electronic and Latin music. Tickets are available here.

4-) Film & Cuisine:

In February, from Friday to Sunday you can stop by for a film and some gourmet bites at the Cine y Gastronomía events organized at the Usina del Arte (closed during January) and the Patio de los Lecheros in the Caballito neighborhood.

5-) Rock Concerts:

Summer is the best time of the year for live music. This year, in February and March international live acts such as Creedence, James Blunt, Rod Stewart and more will be gracing BA stages. Plus, the Lollapalooza festival will be taking place from the 16th to the 18th of March with a line up that includes Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lana del Rey, amongst others. Find all of the upcoming rock concerts here.
