Art in the City at Semana del Arte 2012

The city streets are abuzz with artistic events due to the Semana del Arte 2012 (BA art week). The event, which will take place until Saturday, will be promoting both national and international art through many activities and special exhibits.

Every weekday starting at 4.30pm there are guided tours of different galleries and collections. From Wednesday to Friday starting at 7pm there will be gallery nights in different areas of the city. On Wednesday it will take place in Palermo, Thursday in Puerto Madero and San Telmo, and on Friday throughout the whole city. On Saturday, from midday to 4pm there will be a drawing competition and closing act at the Rosedal Gardens in Palermo. Later on, from 5pm to 7pm there will be a special guided tour of the Kosice new media Biennial that is taking place at the nearby Planetarium.

Museums and galleries will all be participating in their own way of this celebratory art filled week so expect interesting exhibits, such as the Beatriz Milhazes at the MALBA, or the new renovated exhibit at the MNBA which is also displaying a temporary loan of an El Greco painting.

The local artistic community will be abuzz throughout the weekend, as the most important contemporary art fair of the year, arteBA, has kicked off at La Rural until the 22nd of May.

The fair, which is the largest of its kind in Latin America, will showcase the artwork from 68 different galleries, and also promote newcomers to the scene, award prizes, and stage conferences for collectors and 3 art talks with renowned local artists Marta Minujín, Julio Le Parc and Pablo Reinoso.  Additionally, this year the fair will be offering free iPhone and iPad apps, and free audio guides.
