5th-21st October: FIBA International Theatre Festival: Start buying your tickets now for the theatre performances that will be taking place this October as part of the FIBA!

16th of October: National Holiday as the Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity is commemorated.

22nd October: Legislative elections will take place, which means few things will be open. On the 21st, from 8pm onwards, nightclubs and bars will be closed and the sale of alcohol will be restricted.

8th September- 3rd of December- Bienalsur- The first edition of this Latin American contemporary art biennial is taking place until December. Check out the full program here.

MALBA: The MALBA is showcasing two exhibits, one of renowned photographer Diane Arbus until the 9th of October, and the other of Peruvian artist Ximena Garrido-Lecca who works with copper until November. Figueroa Alcorta 3415, Palermo.

Head to the Museo Mitre and get in touch with Argentine history through a glimpse of Bartolomé Mitre’s life. The museum is also showcasing a temporary exhibit on Argentine advertising from 1881-1920. Open Mon-Fri from 1pm-5.30pm. San Martin 336, downtown.

Don’t miss the new MALBA exhibit, Bye Bye American Pie, which showcases some of the most influential American contemporary art by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Larry Clark, Nan Goldin, Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger, Cady Noland, and Paul Mc Carthy. Avenida Figueroa Alcorta 3415, Recoleta.

 Bjork will be playing the last of six intimate shows at the centro de exposiciones where her album Biophilia Residency will be presented to the public. On the 21st she will be staging a larger concert at GEBA. Tickets here.

At 1pm, the Buenos Aires tango orchestra will be playing for free at the Teatro Alvear. Corrientes 1659, Downtown.

For a unique evening, book your place at Fierro Hotel’s Thursday wine tasting and sample some great Argentine wines, chosen by the president of the Argentine Sommelier Association Andres Rosberg and in-house Sommelier Martin Bruno. Don´t miss the free outdoor projection of Tropicalia, a documentary about Brazilian music, by director Marcelo Machado. The screening will take place as part of the BAFICI at the Parque Centenario in Caballito starting at 8pm.

From the 19th of April to the 7th of May, the city will be abuzz with literary activity at the annual international book fair. Tickets cost 20 pesos from Mon-Thur and 26 pesos on the weekend. Find the full program of activities here.

In the evening the Israeli theatre, dance and percussion group Mayumana will be presenting their new show, Momentum 2.0, at the Gran Rex Theatre. Av. Corrientes 857. 4322-8000. Tickets here.

On Saturday, from 6pm-1pm, a special artistic event will be held in Buenos Aires. The exhibit will feature installations and other artwork by locally renowned artists. There will also be live performances by actors and musicians. Blanco Encalada 3270, Belgrano.

Bjork will be staging a large concert at GEBA to conclude her Buenos Aires visit where she presented her latest album/installation Biophilia Residency. Tickets here.

Don´t miss the free outdoor screening of Joy Division, a documentary by Grant Gee. The screening will take place as part of the BAFICI at the Parque Centenario in the Caballito neighborhood starting at 10pm.

Dialogo en la Oscuridad is an international exhibit where the senses are rediscovered.  The public is guided in absolute darkness through different scenarios and learns to perceive everyday life in a different way.  Open Tue-Sun 5pm-10pm. Presenting over four hundred films by a great variety of both local and international directors, the festival is a cultural melting-pot with something for everyone. The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Recoleta is presenting a new exhibit ¨Claridad, la vanguardia en lucha¨, showcasing Argentine art from the 20´s-40´s depicting different social and political aspects that the country was going through at the time. Av. Del Libertador 1473, Recoleta.

The Buenos Aires International Folklore Festival takes place annually in La Plata and is a great place for music enthusiasts to become acquainted with a part of the local identity through the native culture. More information here.

On Sunday, starting at 11am, there will be a free concert at the Teatro Colón  featuring Camerata Bariloche performing Vivaldi, Haydn, and Dvoràk.
