Buenos Aires is under the effects of Autumn and will be cooling down as the month advances which means more time for indoor culture, and delicious dining. Below, this month’s main events in the city.

Events/Eventos

Easter: This month, Easter, which is a national holiday, will be taking place from the 13th to the 16th of April. Get ready for some rosca de pascuas and chocolate eggs.

Pascuas: Este año las pascuas, que son feriado en Argentina, se festejan del 13 al 16 de abril, época para comer la típica rosca y huevos de chocolate.

Konex Classical Music Festival: 19-23 April, classical music lovers should definitely stop by this festival which will be homaging Beethoven this year.

Festival Konex de Música Clásica: Un imperdible para los amantes de música clásica que este año hace homenaje a Beethoven y se lleva a cabo del 19 al 23 de abril. 

BAFICI Film Festival: The biggest independent film fest of the year in Argentina takes place from the 19th to the 30th of April. We recommend you buy your tickets in advance.

BAFICI: el Festival de Cine Independiente de Buenos Aires se lleva a cabo del 19 al 30 de abril y es uno de los eventos culturales más importantes de la ciudad. Recomendamos adquirir sus entradas con anticipación. 

Annual International Book Fair: Buenos Aires is a literary city and its international book fair is a great opportunity to find books, readers and writers all in one place. This year it will be carried out from the 27th of April to the 15th of May.

Feria del Libro: Buenos Aires es una ciudad literaria y la Feria Internacional del Libro que se lleva a cabo todos los años es el lugar ideal para encontrar libros, lectores y escritores, todos en un mismo espacio. Este año se lleva a cabo del 27 al 15 de mayo.

The MACBA is a new contemporary art museum that recently opened in San Telmo, and because this is their inaugural week it will be free until the 8th of September. Whilst in the area don’t forget to stop by the MAMBA, the museum of modern art, which is just down the block. Av. San Juan, 328, San Telmo.

Don’t miss the Orquesta Típica Fernandez Fierro’s contemporary tango show at 10pm.  Sanchez de Bustamante 764, Abasto.

Thursday

Stop by the Centro Cultural Recoleta and check out some of the photography exhibits that are being displayed as part of the Festival de la Luz (light festival). The festival takes place throughout August and September around the country.

Book your place at Fierro Hotel’s Thursday wine tasting and sample some great Argentine wines, chosen by the president of the Argentine Sommelier Association Andres Rosberg and in-house Sommelier Martin Bruno. Colón Theatre 2012 Autumn Program

The Colón Theatre is one of the city`s most popular attractions. It is internationally known for its beautiful architecture and impeccable acoustics. Touring the Opera House is one option, but the best way to experience its virtues, is by attending one of the Operas, ballets or concerts that are staged throughout the year.

Ticket prices are varied and can range from 30 pesos (approx. 7 USD) standing at the back of the theatre, to approximately 490 pesos ( approx. 100 USD) for front row seating at a ballet and up to 950 pesos (approx. 200USD) for front row seating at the opera. Keep in mind that concerts are cheaper than ballets and operas, and that on some Sunday mornings, concerts are staged for free.

Opera:

-La Forza del Destino-Music by Giuseppe Verdi. Libretto by Francesco Maria Piave (1869 revised version.) This four act opera, based on the play ¨Don Alvaro o la Fuerza del Sino” by Angel de Saveedra Duque de Rivas, will be staged on the 22nd, 24th, 26th and 28th of April.

Ballet:

Carmen: Music by Georges Bizet, Isaac Albeniz, Joaquin Turina with arrangements by Luis Gorelik, Colón orchestra director. Choreography by Mauricio Wainrot. 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th of April.

-Angela Gheorghiu  and  Roberto Alagna with the Colón Theatre Orchestra. 11th of April at 8.30pm.

-Destinos irrepetibles (Unrepeatable Destinies) Director: Guillermo Scarabino, Violoncello Soloist: Leonard Elschenbroich.  -Russian Pianist Evgueni Kissin presents  Franz Schubert´s Sonata in E-flat major, D. 568,  Ludwig van Beethoven´s 32 Variations in C minor, WoO 80 (1806), Johannes Brahms: Six Pieces for Piano,  Op. 118 and  Frederic Chopin´s Andante spianato et grande polonaise brillante, Op. 22. 8th of June at 8.30pm.

 -Free concert by Capilla del Sola and Museo Isaac Fernandez Blanco`s resident ensemble featuring anonymous Baroque and classic Jesuit composers. Sunday 10th of June at 11am.

 -Free concert by Violoncellos Argentinos. The repertoire includes music by Max Bruch, Bela Bartok, Sibelius, Julian Plaza and Piazzolla. Sunday 24th of June at 11am.
