The MALBA inaugurates its Yoko Ono exhibit on the 24nd of June showcasing works by the artist that span from the 60’s to the present day.

Renowned Argentine Artist, Guillermo Roux, is showcasing a collection of paintings at the Colón Theatre inspired by orchestras until the 17th of June. You can find the full June program of the theatre here.

Coming Up: Chef Mun + Hernán Gipponi Flavor Feast

Renowned chefs Hernán Gipponi and Mun Kim will be pairing up in the following days to present a tasting menu inspired by both their culinary influences from both the East and West.  The event will take place on the 26th and 27th of June at Fierro Hotel‘s restaurant.

The menu will feature a medley of dishes, by each of the chefs.  Hernán Gipponi will break the ice with his signature Madryn prawns and Chef Mun will follow with a Brandsen Salad. Then, for the main course, Hernán will be spoiling his guests with the catch of the day including peas, string beans, beats and fried calamari (YUM!) and to follow, Chef Mun will start with salmon and tuna nigiri, and then a Korean style rib eye (mmm!). Finally, to seal the deal, Hernán will be presenting his famous yoghurt foam with passion fruit, lychees, and roasted pumpkin seeds.

The tasting menu costs 450 pesos and will include wine pairings by Bodega Casarena, mineral water and tea or coffee. Bookings must be made in advance at 3220-6820. Soler 5862, Palermo

Argentine Talent: Luis Salinas

Luis Salinas is one if the most prolific contemporary musicians of the country. Known for his superb guitar playing, and his interpretations of tango, folklore and Latin jazz, he has merged the traditional with the new, proving both his talent and ability.

The renowned guitarist, born in 1957 in Monte Grande, at the south of the Buenos Aires province,  he began playing at a young and recorded with artists such as Adolfo Ábalos, Horacio Salgán and Tomatito, amongst others.

Currently, every Saturday throughout June, he is staging live shows at Torcuato Tasso in San Telmo.  On the 15th of June (today), he will play a repertoire of funk, rock, blues and ballads. On the 22nd of June he will play traditional Latin music and on the 29th he will play Latin-Jazz. Tickets are 120 pesos and places must be booked in advance. The shows begin at 10pm, and the public must arrive at 9pm. More information here.

National Flag Day

Today is a national holiday as National Flag Day is celebrated on the anniversary of the death of Manuel Belgrano (who created the flag) in 1820. More information about the Argentine flag is available here.

For the occasion there will be a special event at the Centro Cultural Recoleta featuring live acts and more from 3.30 pm onwards. Junin 1930, Recoleta.

There will also be a special Folklore Peña at the traditional Feria de Mataderos where there will be folkloric dances, gaucho games, typical food and traditional crafts.

In the evening stop by La Peña del Colorado where a tango peña will be held at 8.30pm. This Palermo centered peña serves traditional food and stages live shows by an array of performers as well as hosting folklore dances for the community.  From midnight onwards they also encourage the diners to play spontaneous guitar music. Wednesday is a national holiday as National Flag Day is celebrated. For the occasion there will be a special event at the Centro Cultural Recoleta featuring live acts and more from 3.30 pm onwards. Junin 1930, Recoleta.

On Sunday, the Colón Theatre will be hosting a free violoncello concert starting at 11 am. The repertoire includes music by Max Bruch, Bela Bartok, Sibelius, Julian Plaza and Piazzolla. Tickets must be picked up in advance at the theatre. Cerrito 628, Downtown.

Cuisine & Vins 2012

Starting today, the annual Cuisine & Vins Expo will be taking place at the stunning Palacio Paz.

The event, which will take place from the 6th to the 8th of June, will offer visitors the opportunity to sample a variety of Argentine wines from over twenty wineries.  Additionally there will also be stands with gourmet and deli products from around the country, cigars and more to enjoy.

The expo is also ideally set in the Palacio Paz, in front of the Plaza San Martín. This emblematic architectural landmark is known for its beautiful interiors and it’s facades, inspired by one of the Louvre’s facades and the Chantilly Palace in France. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, tours in English at 3.30pm can be booked in advance for groups of four or more people.

Head to the Dorrego Flea Market in Palermo, which is often overlooked and is the perfect place to go on a treasure hunt.  Antiques and curious finds are waiting to be dug up and claimed in this charming neighborhood market. Open Tue-Sun 10am-7pm.  Av.Dorrego and Conde.

In the evening don’t miss the special opera production of Oedipus at the Colón theatre. Alex Ollé, from the famous Catalan theatre group La Fura dels Baus, will be staging this unique coproduced version of the Greek classic.  Tickets here.

Cuisine Vins Expo: The 2012 Cuisine Vins Expo will be taking place at the stunning Palacio Paz from the 6th-8th of June. A must for foodie and wine enthusiasts alike! Av. Santa Fe 750, Downtown. From 5pm-11pm.
