On hot summer days it is important to stay hydrated and to eat light and fresh meals that keep you energized and cool. Below, we share a pick of five restaurants in the Palermo area where you can stop by for a refreshing and uplifting lunch.

Get ready for rooftop pooling and evening drinks outdoors because the Porteño summer is about to make its hot hot mark, and although meat may be the local staple, lunching on salads and juices might be a better option to remain fresh whilst visiting city attractions.  Below, our pick of places to stop by for something light and fresh.

Quimbombó: Overlooking Plaza Armenia in Palermo, this healthy restaurant offers vegetarian cuisine, fresh refreshing juices of all kinds and a lovely terrace to sit outside. Costa Rica 4652, Palermo.

Cusic: Wraps, salads and sandwiches are all perfect summer lunches and easy to enjoy at this hidden Palermo gem that serves homemade cuisine in a great setting including a lovely terrace-garden. El Salvador 6016, Palermo. 4139-9173.

 Salgado Alimentos: Set in Villa Crespo, near the outlets, this small and inviting Italian restaurant specializes in pasta, however they are also known for their savory salads with less common ingredients such as artichokes or passion fruit vinaigrette.  Ramírez de Velazco 401, Villa Crespo. 4854-1336.

I Central Market: Puerto Madero is definitely a summer hot spot and Central Market is the perfect place for sitting outdoors overlooking the river and eating a salad or a sandwich. Azucena Villaflor and Olga Cosentini, Puerto Madero.  5775-0330.

Hierbabuena– In San Telmo a great place for a light lunch is this restaurant that focuses on healthy eating and offers a nice spot outdoors to sit.  Av. Caseros 454, San Telmo.

We Recommend: Lunch at Cusic

Whether for breakfast, lunch or a satisfying afternoon pastry, Cusic is the place to go.  Welcoming and cozy, this hidden Palermo gem offers homemade cuisine inside a house converted into restaurant, which also has a lovely terrace-garden for the sunnier summer spring days. The food is varied, depending on the time of the day. Options include savory and sweet baked goods, yoghurt and fruits for breakfast (as well as homemade marmalade), delicious sandwiches and wraps, and other more elaborate dishes.

Cusic usually opens from Wednesday to Sunday during the day from 10am to 8pm; however, on Thursday´s, they host special dinners until 12pm in which customers pay what they believe the food was worth. If you´re in the Palermo area and are looking for a charming homey place to stop and enjoy carefully prepared food in a relaxing environment then this is the place for you.  El Salvador 6016, Palermo.


5 Hot Lunch Spots in Palermo

Baraka: This colorful and lively Palermo venue is only open during the day, and despite not serving alcohol is always full, which is a good sign. Their menu includes salads, sandwiches and dishes -such as the lamb burger- with a Middle Eastern spin. Olsen: Open sandwiches (smørrebrød) made from rye bread and delicious toppings like marinated herring and roast beef with curry sauce are typical in Scandinavian cuisine, and make great lunch options. Bio: Those who wish to go down the organic, vegetarian and even raw path will definitely love Bio. Their menu is varied and their food delicious and light enough that you can continue sightseeing all afternoon without needing a 2-hour nap in the middle. Efímero Festín: For a quick sandwich in tasty bread or a salad with many toppings, Efímero Festín is the place to go. They offer top quality gourmet products, plus they have a salad bar to pick your own veggies from, and all in a cozy Palermo style setting.  Uriarte 1411, Palermo.  4831-9867

Hernán Gipponi Restaurant: Known for its elaborate tasting menus and famous brunch, Fierro Hotel’s restaurant also offers fantastic lunch options following its usual standard of quality, creativity and amazing taste. Hernán Gipponi Lunch Menu and Happy Hour

Hernán Gipponi Restaurant, set in the ground floor of Fierro Hotel, has a lot of exciting news for 2012, starting with the new lunch menu  consisting of a 5-course meal for 100 pesos or 150 pesos with drinks included.  The restaurant has also incorporated a happy hour on Tuesdays through Saturdays from 6pm-8pm featuring Argentine inspired drinks (35pesos x 2) and a savory selection of tapas. The restaurant has also recently undergone some redecorating and is now playing customized music by DJ Oliverio who has also put together a super cool podcast for our guests to download and take on their walks around town!

Tour Gourmet Buenos Aires 2012

This mythical restaurant in La Boca neighborhood is a classic for visitors looking to taste typical Argentine dishes and great asado!  Decorated with football paraphernalia and antique wooden furniture, the cozy local vibe and great food make El Obrero well worth the visit  although preferably during the day as the area is a little dodgy at night.
