Annual International Book Fair- Buenos Aires is a literary city and its international book fair is a great opportunity to find books, readers and writers all in one place. This year it will take place from the 27th of April to the 15th of May at La Rural in Palermo.

Easter: This month, Easter, which is a national holiday, will be taking place from the 13th to the 16th of April. Get ready for some rosca de pascuas and chocolate eggs.

Konex Classical Music Festival: 19-23 April, classical music lovers should definitely stop by this festival which will be homaging Beethoven this year.

One of the city’s architectural landmarks is the famous Palacio Barolo, full of references to poet Dante Alighieri. Guided tours take place from 4pm to 7pm and evening guided tours at 8.30pm include tasting of an awarded wine and a national delicacy. Av. de Mayo 1370, downtown.

In the evening, stop by Parque Centenario where a free Argentine folklore concert, featuring musicians Antonio Tarragó Ros and Fernando Pisano, will take place at 8.30pm.

Oscar Conti at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes

The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (MNBA) is hosting a new exhibition featuring the works of renowned Argentine illustrator and comic artist Oscar “Oski” Conti.

In terms of form, Conti’s work was highly influenced by Rumanian illustrator Saul Steinberg. Thematically, it includes historical references, as well as personal experiences and depictions of his travels.

The exhibit, which will take place until the 25th of November, is showcasing over 75 of the artist’s pieces as well as photographs and essays written by Umberto Eco, Juan Sasturnain and other renowned intellectuals. There will also be a screening of two films and a power point display with unpublished material.

The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (MNBA) in Recoleta, recently inaugurated an exhibition of Argentine artist Ariel Mlynarzewicz works. The showcase features different portraits of local historical figures that the artist painted for the bicentennial of the May independence wars. The exhibition also features a series of documentaries that show the artistic process and also, interviews that the artist carried out with historians and other renowned figures of the local culture to better understand the subjects of his works. The paintings will be on display until the 22nd of September. The museum is also showcasing an excellent exhibition of Argentine artist Pío Collivadino’s works.  Av. del Libertador 1473, Recoleta.

Art on Paper at the MNBA

The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, in Recoleta, is showcasing an exhibit that focuses on paper as an artistic medium.  The exhibition displays European art from the late XIX and XX centuries and includes drawings and prints.

The display is organized thematically into eight categories: sketches and preliminary studies, nudes, the human figure both as an individual and a group, portraits, allegories and emblems, urban landscapes and paper as a means of communication.

Amongst the collection are works by Georges Rouault, , Felice Carena, Carlos Carra, Felice Casorati, Picasso, and Federico García Lorca.

The exhibition is open to the public until the 3rd of March. Opening hours are Tuesday’s to Friday’s from 12.30pm to 8.30pm and Saturday’s and Sunday’s from 9.30am to 8.30pm.  Av. Del Libertador 1473, Recoleta. 5288-9999.
