The Buenos Aires Tango Championship will be carried out from the 4th to the 15th of May with the grand finale taking place at the Usina del Arte. More information will be available here closer to date.

The MNBA in Recoleta is showcasing a site specific work by renowned Argentine contemporary artist Jorge Macchi that complements the artist’s exhibits at the MALBA and Di Tella institute. On the 3rd of May, the museum is also inaugurating a new exhibit of Mexican muralists Siqueiros, Rivera, and Orozco’s works.

El MNBA en Recoleta tiene en exposición una instalación de Jorge Macchi que complementa las muestras del mismo artista en el MALBA y en el Instituto Di Tella. El 3 de mayo, el museo también inaugura una muestra de la obra de los muralistas mejicanos Siqueiros, Rivera y Orozco.

The MALBA in Palermo is showcasing a collection of Jorge Macchi’s work until the end of May, alongside a photography exhibit of Claudia Andujar’s work, and a temporary showcase of Juan Tessi’s paintings.

The MAMBA in San Telmo is featuring Marta Minujin’s famous La Menesunda until the 22nd of May.

Fundación PROA in La Boca, in collaboration with the National Museum of 21st Century Arts (MAXII) is displaying Arte en Escena, an exhibit that explores connections between art and theatre in terms of the spatial aspects of staging.

La Fundación PROA en La Boca, con la colaboración del Museo Nacional del Arte del Siglo XXI (MAXII) presenta una muestra llamada Arte en Escena que explora la relación del arte con el espacio escénico. 

Once With Me- A cross disciplinary contemporary dance performance choreographed by Pam Tanowitz will take place at the Faena Arts Center in Puerto Madero on the 17th, 18th, 19th of May.

Once with me es una puesta de danza contemporánea interdisciplinaria cuya coreografía fue diseñada por Pam Tanowitz y se lleva a cabo en el Faena Arts Center en Puerto Madero del 17 al 19 de mayo.

The Colón Theatre will be in full swing during May and will stage two operas: Beethoven’s only opera, Fidelio, and, an experimental staging of Argentine composer Gandini’s operas at the direction of Michal Znaniecki. The theatre will also be holding various concerts. The full May program is available here.

Guided tours at 3pm of  Manzana de las Luces, an old Jesuit residence from the 1700’s in the San Telmo area are well worth the experience! Peru 272, San Cristobal.

In the evening, a parade of strange theatrical creatures will inaugurate the Teatro x la identidad event featuring live music by Leon Gieco and Los Tekis, amongst others, at the ND Ateneo where tickets will be handed out on a first come first serve basis from 6pm onwards. Paraguay 918, downtown.

FIBA International Theatre Festival 2013

The 2013 FIBA international theatre festival kicks off today offering a broad program with top quality performances from around the globe. The festival, which takes place every two years since 1997, is one of the most important theatre events in South America and this year will feature international and local acts, film screenings about theatre, experimental theatre, seminars and lectures, book presentations, a photography exhibit and more. The event will take place around different city theatres and cultural centers and the full program is available here.

Ciudad Emergente, a festival that seeks to display emerging art kicks off until the 23rd of June at the Centro Cultural Recoleta Junín 1930, Recoleta.

Ciudanza 2012

Starting this Thursday, three city parks will be displaying unique contemporary dance performances for the Ciudanza festival, which seeks to fuse dance with urban landscapes.


On Thursday and Friday four performances will be held at the Barrancas de Belgrano parks, starting at 8pm.

Afecto, is a performance by Fabiana Capriotti and Gabriel Greca, which brings the theme of affection and being affected to the stage by exploring the limits of physical contact.

El suicidio de Madame B., inspired by Flaubert’s Madame Bovary, brings Emma’s character to life, to the sound of music by PJ Harvey and Schubert amongst others.

Invisible is a group choreography that weaves fleeting physical constructions and actions with the landscape.

Una Fauna occurs in the division of two territories; the Pampas and the Rio de la Plata. Between the two is a new animal life that comes to life with nocturnal sounds and music.


On Saturday and Sunday performances will be held in Parque Lezama in San Telmo, starting 3pm, and in Parque Chacabuco starting 5pm.


The program for Parque Lezama is as follows:

Jujuy, interpreted by Rosaura García and Emanuel Ludueña, deals with interdependence and a fragile balance where permanent conflict reigns.

Lazos is a group choreography that deals with the different types of bonds people make. Some come together, others, come apart.

Loop Imperfecto is a group choreography that brings to stage an abstract performance where a path is traced and movement is put into circulation.


In Parque Chacabuco:

Coctel. Con la mancha en la blusa explores the idea of living in the moment, being open to possibilities, and going with the flow.

Horario de descarga, explores different levels of rigidity between two dancers, and their relationship with a Cartwright.

Tiempos que corren is an acrobatics performance where a number of clothing items are interchanged causing different reactions in the performers.

FIBA VIII International Theatre Festival

Every two years the city stages receive special guests from around the world who come to Buenos Aires to participate in the international theatre festival. Both local and international plays are staged in various theatres presenting the best of both classic and avant garde performances.

This years repertoire brings plays from Germany, Italy, France, Burkina Faso, Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay as well as presenting a large selection of Argentine plays.

All plays are carried out in their original language with Spanish subtitles, some are dance choreographies, and others experimental representations including video projections, music and puppets.


Some interesting options include

Las cajas voyeuristas:  An urban intervention by the Mexican Dora García who stages scenes of forgotten women of Mexican history inside “voyeur boxes” that spectators peek into.

Médeé: This coo production between France and Burkina Faso directed by Jean-Louis Martinelli brings an adaptation of the Greek classic focusing on the themes of exile and the strengths of African culture.

Une Flute Enchanteé: Mozart’s famous opera is adapted by Peter Brook and turned into this magical musical play that has earned itself a 2011 Moliere Award.

De Fierro- Puppet representation for adults of the Argentine classic Martin Fierro.

Hombre Rebinado by Margarita Ball is a virtual play that is carried out through a video projection of bodies over real objects.
