Chinese: whether with dumplings, seafood, rice noodles or tofu, chinese soups are always a delicious option for cooler days. In the Belgrano Barrio Chino (chinatown) you can either grab a quick one at one of the soup bars in the chinese supermarket or choose one of the many restaurants in the area.

Parque Lezama: Also in San Telmo, this fair is located in Parque Lezama which is set in front of a stunning Russian Orthodox church and next to the National History Museum. Defensa and Brazil, San Telmo

Plaza Francia: This fair which takes place in the stunning Plaza Francia in Recoleta just in front of the MNBA (the National Museum of Fine Arts) is a great place to buy leather, silver and knits, and is well known for the quality of the products and designs. Other things to do in the area: tour the Recoleta Cemetery and stop by traditional café La Biela for a break.

Plaza Serrano: The Palermo fair in Plaza Serrano is surrounded by stores that open up on weekends for new and upcoming designers to showcase and sell their stuff. Also, it is full of great spots to stop for a bite or drinks.  Honduras and Serrano, Palermo

Other things to do in the area: Walk a few blocks to the Botanical Garden and cool off in the shade after an afternoon of shopping, or stop for some wine and a good read at nearby wine & bookstore, Alamut.

Feria de Mataderos: slightly further away from the city center, this Sunday fair is perfect for those looking for typical local products and gaucho style souvenirs. Lisandro de la Torre and Av. de los Corrales, Liniers

Other things to do in the area: the Bolivian market which offers andean food and complements opens on Sundays in front of the fair, and the Mercado de Liniers, which commercializes cattle, is right next to it.

Buenos Aires is known for its great bars, and for the next few days, with BA Cocktail week in full swing until the 21st, visiting them will be a must. Some of our favorites include 878, Verne, Isabel, Victoria Brown, Gran Bar Danzón, Florería Atlántico, and Casa Cavia. Throughout the week, you will not only find cocktails at discount prices, and some of the city’s best bartenders shaking things up, but there will also be cocktail classes and unique pairings such as cocktail and a burger. The 30th edition of the Casa FOA design fair is taking place until the 30th of November at a specially remodeled 40’s style house in the Retiro area that is well worth visiting, especially for architecture and design enthusiasts. Basavilbaso 1233, downtown.

Although traditionally Argentines don’t celebrate Halloween, Sugar Club in Palermo is always up for some dress-up fun on the 31st and Milion Bar will be hosting a Haunted House night, and giving out a best-costume prize. 

Museum Night (La Noche de los Museos) will also be taking place on Saturday night with a chance to visit all the city museums under the ghoulish light of a fading moon.

From Wednesday to Saturday the Colón Theatre will be featuring a special performance of El Ascenso (The Ascent), an experimental choreography by Luis Garay. Tickets here.

Oscar Conti at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes

The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (MNBA) is hosting a new exhibition featuring the works of renowned Argentine illustrator and comic artist Oscar “Oski” Conti.

In terms of form, Conti’s work was highly influenced by Rumanian illustrator Saul Steinberg. Thematically, it includes historical references, as well as personal experiences and depictions of his travels.

The exhibit, which will take place until the 25th of November, is showcasing over 75 of the artist’s pieces as well as photographs and essays written by Umberto Eco, Juan Sasturnain and other renowned intellectuals. There will also be a screening of two films and a power point display with unpublished material.

Adriana Varejao at the MALBA

Adriana Varejao is one of the best-known Brazilian artists of her generation. Her works deal with themes regarding art and religious history, Brazilian history and colonialism, optical illusions, maps, travel, and oceans.  Using mixed media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, installations, and photography, she has produced a broad spectrum of works from the nineties to the present day.

From the 10th of April to the 10th of June, for the first time in Argentina, a retrospective of her art will be on display at the MALBA. The exhibition will feature over 40 of her most significant pieces from different periods that will be arranged in chronological order and will include the installations presented at the 22nd and 24th Sao Paolo Biennials.

The MALBA is open from midday to 8pm every day except Tuesdays. The stylish museum also carries out film screenings and has a great cafe and restaurant.  Avenida Figueroa Alcorta 3415, 4808-6500.
