Christmas and New Year at HG Restaurant

In Argentina, the big Christmas festivity takes place on Christmas Eve. This is probably because one of the seasonal joys is the fantastic food and drink, and in the local summer both are better enjoyed in the evening. Those of you who are looking for the best spot to book a great Christmas of New Year’s Eve dinner should look no further. Hernán Gipponi Restaurant will be offering a delectable menu fit for kings and queens!

Aperitifs include homemade carob/quinoa/multigrain/ciabatta breads with flavored butters, shrimps, black pudding and roasted red bell peppers,  scallops with passion fruit, sweet potato, red onion and chestnuts, and chorizo and tomato sauce.

There will also be a salad of veal sweet breads, yellow bell pepper pulp, roast tomatoes, provolone cheese, mixed greens and sprouts.

(Don’t worry we’ve still got five courses to go!)

The starter will be egg cooked at 68*C with mushrooms and vegetable stalks, all infused with flavored rice stock.

The fish main course  (which happens to be the chef’s specialty) will consist of the catch of the day with a velvety summer squash emulsion, pearled lentils and crab. After that, a delicious veal tenderloin with carrots, fennel and smooth pistachio and spinach sauce.

Finally, a pre-dessert of grilled peaches in Torrontés with Cordoba peanuts and lemon cream will prepare the palate for the final dessert of watermelon, melon, mascarpone cheese, carob and lemon verbena. Afterwards, just in case anyone is still hungry, petit fours and coffee will be served of course.

The menu, including top Argentine wine pairings, mineral water and Nespresso coffee is 650 pesos per person.

And, just in case you wake up on the 25th of December or on the 1st of January with cravings for more, Hernán Gipponi Restaurant will also be serving their famous brunch complete with juices, breads, tapas, fish, lamb/chicken  and panettone!

Let’s hope the Maya were wrong, because this will definitely be worth tasting!

La Fura dels Baus is a Catalan theatre group that has acquired international acclaim for its unconventional use of setting, incorporation of the audience into their representations and shocking themes.

Their latest production “Degustación de Titus Andronicus”  (Taste of Titus Andronicus) brings Shakespeare’s brutal tragedy to stage whilst incorporating the Culinary Arts to the performance at the direction of the prestigious Mugaritz restaurant.   Two chefs cook on stage during the production, interacting with the drama and the audience which will be cirulating during the entire play,  incorporating the senses of taste and smell to the dynamic representation. Finally, 28 previously selected spectators will be joining the final gory banquet where they will be invited to dine and participate in the unfolding of the tragedy.

During the week leading up to the premiere in Buenos Aires, five of the city’s top restaurants, including Hernan Gipponi Restaurant, Aramburu, Freud & Fahler,  Café San Juan,  and La Vineria de Gualterio will be serving a menu inspired by the play.  Additionally, customers of the menu will get a 10% discount for the show on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of August in Club GEBA, Figueroa Alcorta 5575, Palermo.
